What:
Each night will feature a five-course sit-down dinner, where each course is prepared by a different chef and matched with wine from local vineyards.
All proceeds from ticket sales will benefit Share Our Strength's Operation Frontline, a food education program for low-income families in our community. Local chefs volunteer with educators from Cornell Cooperative Extension to lead classes on cooking, nutrition, kitchen safety and food budgeting. Classes are offered to adults, teens and children and always include a communally prepared meal.
Why:
The Operation Frontline Program, which has been operating in our area for 8 years, utilizes the talents of local area chefs combined with trained nutritionists from Cornell’s Cooperative Extension to teach food preparation and nutrition programs. The goal is, over a six week period, to give low-income families the tools they need to be able to eat healthier meals on a limited budget. Helping families understand the nutritional benefits of eating properly and how to prepare the foods that are available to them is as much fun as it is empowering. Every class session ends with the entire group taking part in a meal comprised of what was prepared in that day’s class. Each participant leaves each class with a grocery bag filled with all the ingredients for the recipes taught that day excited to replicate the meal at home.
